„I am a composer, better known of my pop songs. I have issued a selection of poetry last year. Recently I am playing jazz in one of Vilnius’ restaurants, sometimes I create music if asked – for theatre, songs and plays“, says Alvydas Jegelevičius. He is a son of a music teacher, born in 1949. He was studying in Alytus (played violin) and Vilnius J. Tallat-Kelpša (choral conducting and vocal) music schools, Lithuanian State Conservatoire (variety art, jazz, instrumentation, conductiong and composition). A. Jegelevičius was surrounded by music from his childhood and has never imagined a life without it. In 1968 together with his friends he has established a first bigband in Alytus called “Aisčiai”.
The musical oeuvres of A. Jegelevičius are rich and various: music for Lithuanian theaters (some granted with the prize of Lithuanian Ministry of Cilture as the Best music for children show), musicals, compositions for television, documentary and animated movies, choral oeuvres, orchestral, jazz music. The words of composer Eduardas Balsys were vatic: „Sometimes it‘s better a song than the symphony“.A.Jegelevičius has created over 300 oeuvres, the most of them are songs for solo, duo, chorus and vocal ensembles.
